Tangier Around trip: 05 days to Fez & Rabat

Day 01: Tangier – Tetouan – Chefchaouen:

Upon your arrival in port or airport or we meet you at the hotel, we collect you and start our trip driving out of Tangier taking the direction to the blue city of Chefchaouen. It is a beautiful town of cobalt-stained streets set amid the majestic Rif Mountains. A town as rich in history as it is beautiful, it was established in 1471 when Moorish and Jewish settlers fled here to escape the Reconquista of Spain.

Our journey will take us via the town of Tetouan where we will make a short stop for pictures. We will head off along the Rif mountains enjoying the green landscape until we arrive to our destination. Check into the hotel, and then have time to discover the magical amazing Chaouen, a mountainous town in north of Morocco with a superb setting, full of charm and authenticity. The city is characterized by the Andalusian blue architecture and is famous for its beautiful local Rif rugs.

Every corner of Chefchaouen’s Medina offers a magical view of the city streets and surrounding mountains. Its small streets are very beautiful, colorful and pleasant to walk. Uta Hammam square is the heart of the medina and a meeting point for locals, there are many good cafes. In the same square, you will visit the city’s great mosque and the kasbah with its very pleasant gardens. Lunch will be in one of the restaurants by the square.

Within our stay or visit to Chefchaouen, we must immerse ourselves deep in their local authentic lifestyle as it is very different from the frenetic pace of the big cities of Morocco. Overnight in a charming riad.

Day 02: Chefchaouen – Meknes – Volubilis – Fez:

After our breakfast at the hotel/riad, our assistant will meet you at the lobby and get ready to leave Chefchaouen for Fez. Our authentic journey will start towards the Roman ruins of Volubilis crossing the Rif mountains via the town of Ouazzan as well as small villages nestled beneath the green breath-taking mountains. Once in volubilis, we will discover the roman ruins and learn about the archeological facts of the site and the old Moroccan history.

Following our time at the site, we will shift our direction to Meknes; one of fourth imperial cities in Morocco. We will have lunch in Meknes before we go for the sightseeing of the old medina. We will hang around the historical huge walls of the medina, Bab Mansour Gate and enjoy a visit of Moulay Ismail’s shrine. Our journey will end up in Fez. Overnight in a charming Riad/Hotel.

Day 03: Fez sightseeing:

After breakfast in the Riad, we meet you at the reception and start exploring the oldest city in Morocco, walking via its alleys and small streets. The walking tour of fez is divided into two parts, the internal and external side. We will start with the external part in which we will try to visit the most historical monuments: The Royal Palace gate, the Jewish headquarter, the first Melah ever built in Morocco, built during the 16th century, the pottery and Zellij tilework… Additionally, during the internal part of our walk, we will ensure to cover all sites with cultural and historical interests including the famous Al Karaouine University, the oldest in the region, the Tanneries, the Attarin Museum and Moulay Idriss Mausoleum. After lunch, we carry on exploring more sites walking through the narrow alleys of this labyrinthic medina. Around 03pm we will get back to our hotel.

Day 04: Fez – Rabat:

Our driver/guide will meet you at the lobby upon the departure time to leave Fez for Rabat. We will drive through the new part of Fez to see the difference between of old and new parts of Fez. Our journey will take through the high-way to Rabat, which is the actual capital and one of four imperial cities in Morocco. The city is famous for domes, minarets, sweeping terraces, wide avenues, and green spaces. Once in Rabat, we will cover the main essential historical attractions such as: The picturesque Oudaya Kasbah, Hassan Tower, The Mausoleum of Mohamed V, and the Chela Necropolis where the Roman and Islamic ruins lie side by side whispering endless stories of the past centuries. When we finish with Rabat sightseeing, we check for our hotel where to spend overnight.

Day 05: Rabat – Tangier:

Around 09am after you have had your breakfast, we collect you from the hotel and drive to our destination Tangier. Before we arrive at Tangier, we shift our direction to Asilah where we take a walk through the narrow streets of the walled medina and learn about the history of the city. Admire the sweeping sea and coastal views as you stroll along the city’s paradise beach and city ramparts. Take a break from history to appreciate Asilah as a contemporary cultural center. The tourist-oriented Summer Arts Festival runs during the warmer months. Whereas nearby San Bartholomew church which was built by Franciscan priests from Northwest Spain, is a nice place to visit year-round. Have lunch in one of the local restaurants in the area. Finally, around 04 pm we collect you and drive back to Tangier. End of our services.
