8 – Day tour from Fez to Marrakech via Sahara Desert and Essaouira

Day 01: Fes – Ifran – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga

This 8 – day tour from Fes starts from Fez. So, after having breakfast in your hotel/Riad around 08am, the driver takes you for a  fabulous Morocco trip of a lifetime experience. Today will allow us to explore different landscapes travelling past Ifran, where houses have sloping roofs to cope with yearly snowfall.

Additionally, Morocco journey continues with a drive through the UNESCO preserved Cedar Forest which hosts a colony of endangered Barbary apes. Subsequently, drive south of the Middle Atlas passing through Timhadite until we reach Midelt that lies at the foot of Ayachi Mountains. It is nicknamed ‘the apple capital’ and serves as the commercial agricultural centre for the surrounding area. Also, it is one of Morocco’s principal cities of minerals, such as quartz and vanadinite… On the road, stop for lunch in one of the local restaurants.

8 – day tour from Fez continues further south travelling over the Tizi N’ Talghamt pass known as the ‘camel’ pass. Moreover, you carry on the Morocco tour passing via remote mud villages scattered long the road. Next, descend through Ziz Valley, which is particularly known for its palm grove.  Endly, arrive at the red Erg Chebbi dunes of Merzouga. Overnight in a typical charming riad/hotel.

2nd day: Sahara Desert tour & desert camp

Travel to Morocco without being in the Sahara Desert and a camel ride is incomplete. Therefore, the day will be fully dedicated just to explore the sahara desert area.  This provides us with a unique opportunity to visit Gnaoua village who will entertain us with their authentic instruments. Afterwards, drive deep in the Desert for a panoramic view that illustrates the contrast of golden dunes with black volcanic rocks. 

Our 8 – day tour from Fez is the opportunity for a cup of tea with a nomad family to explore the harshness of what it feels like being a nomad. Follow our Morocco desert tour to an abandoned coal mine before we drive to the village of Merzouga for lunch. 

Furthermore, arrive at the hotel to collect luggage and get ready for camel ride adventure across Erg Chebbi dunes enjoying the sceneries of the area. The sunset view on top of the dunes will be the best highlight of your tour in Morocco.

Day 03: Merzouga – Sijilmasa – Todra Gorges – Rose Valley – Skoura

Resume 8 – day tour from Fez  with an early wake up to attend and enjoy a spectacular sunrise, when the color of the dunes and the play of shadows are an awesome sight. Sitting up over the dunes, waiting for the sun to rise, and meanwhile, feeling the cold morning breeze are feelings you will find only in the Sahara Desert. Later, have your yummy breakfast taken, and then get ready to leave the Desert for Skoura. 

Starting up the day picking you up with a 4×4 jeep to meet the driver and head off to the next destination, Skoura. So, such journey in Morocco will lead us via a number of villages and towns a long the road. Not far away from Merzouga, we stop in Sijilmasa which is one of the oldest cities in Morocco. In case our trip in Morocco coincides with the day market of the town (Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday), a visit is worth it. 

The adventure perssists to Todra Gorges, a paradise site for rock climbers. Stop at the site to explore its high cliffs, and then follow our passion towards Skoura through Dades and Rose Valley. The latter is famous for producing different products of rose such as: rose water, rose cream, and rose oil…

By the end of the day, we arrive at Skoura oasis where to spend overnight in one of its riads.

Day 04: Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Benhadou Kasbah – Atlas Mountains – Essaouira

Right after breakfast at the hotel/Riad, meet you at the reception, and resume our 8 – day tour from Fez. In Ouarzazate, stop to take pictures for Kasbah Taourirt. After doing so, switch the drive towards the Kasbah Ait Benhadou. It is a UNESCO heritage and the backdrop for many Hollywood movies such as Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator… Also, the kasbah is an iconic vestige that will take us back to the ancient era of the country, the time of salt and gold trade… 

In addition, the desert tour in Morocco continues to Essaouira via the enormous landscape of Atlas Mountains. Along the drive, we pass through the winding road with an altitude of 2260m before continuing to Essaouira. Late afternoon, we arrive at Essaouira.

Day 05: Tour in essaouira

Following breakfast, have free time to explore and discover the charm of this amazing town, Essaouira – the safe-haven for wind and kite surfers due to its shallow waters. Also, it was once a favorite haunt of Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix. Not only the beach, but also, there is the old medina which is typical of many small fortified Moroccan townships. At one time, it was considered one of the most essential ports in Morocco, and it is still in certain manners. The fifth day of this 8 – day tour from Fez will end up with overnight in Essaouira.

6th day: Essaouira – Marrakech

We recomence 8 – day tour from Fez with a breakfast at the hotel, and then have your luggage collected from a day trip from Essaouira to Marrakech. Around 10am, we start our journey to the red city, Marrakech. So, before we arrive in Marrakech, we shift our way deep into the High Atlas Mountains to visit a Berber family. As soon as we arrive, they receive us at their authentic traditional house, visit the house and see how typically they live. Also, they provide us with all the bio nutrition they have (tea, cheese, bread…). Later on, we will take our direction to Marrakech where to drop you off at the hotel/Riad.

7th day: Tour in Marrakech

Have breakfast before the local guide will meet you at the hotel’s reception to re-start the 8 day tour from Fez with a walking tour to explore Marrakech. During our guided tour in Marrakech, we will cover the main historical and cultural points that Marrakech is replete with. So, we will insist on discovering the most visited sites in Marrakech such as Saadian Tombs (OPTIONAL), Koutoubia Mosque ‘Exterior side”, Bahia Palace, the old souk of the city, and then walk through the famous square of the medina… 

Also, we will have lunch in one of the local restaurants right by the square. Free afternoon to walk the city on your own.

Day 08: Marrakech – transfer to airport

Upon your flight time, pick you up from the hotel in Marrakech and drive you to the airport. When we drop you off at the airport, we come to the end of your trip in Morocco, and the end of 8 – day tour from Fez.
